The NADCA Annual Meeting 2025 showcased the HVAC industry’s strong focus on science, standards, and collaboration to improve indoor air quality
A Gathering of Passionate Professionals
I had the pleasure of attending this year’s NADCA Annual Meeting in Savannah, Georgia, a remarkable gathering of professionals committed to advancing HVAC system cleaning, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear this wasn’t just a trade event, it was a community. I had the opportunity to meet NADCA’s incoming President, Jim Castellano, during the Directors’ Dinner. Our conversation gave me great confidence in the direction of the organization under his leadership. His passion for raising the bar in standards, certification, and collaboration across the industry was clear.

Science Front and Center
A standout for me was the CEC Session I: NADCA’s Scientific Efforts. The update on the Denver Public School Project and the Energy Study Paper showcased the depth of the organization’s commitment to evidence-based practice. In a time where performance validation and energy optimization are critical, NADCA’s investment in high-quality research is setting a much-needed benchmark.
The highlight of the technical program, without a doubt, was Dr. Mark Hernandez’s session. As many of you know, Dr. Hernandez is world-renowned for his pioneering work in aerobiology and environmental microbiomes. His talk brought deep insight into microbial dynamics in HVAC systems, highlighting just how much we still have to learn about what’s really flowing through the systems we design, clean, and maintain.

Another strong session was delivered by Mike Dwyer, who combined clear communication with practical industry insights. It’s speakers like these who help bridge the gap between science and operations, a crucial aspect of delivering real-world value in this field.
Advancing a Scientific Vision
It was also great to reconnect with Jodi Araujo, CEM, NADCA’s CEO, and to hear directly from Michael McDavid, NADCA’s Vice President, about the evolving scientific visionof the organization. From new initiatives in data collection to shaping best practices around HVAC hygiene and energy use, there’s a clear push to align NADCA’s work with the broader demands of healthy building science.

The exhibition hall was buzzing with energy. It was fantastic to meet industry professionals who bring not just technical skills, but real passion and pride in the work they do. Whether it was duct cleaning tech, robotics, or new filtration innovations, there’s clearly no shortage of creativity and commitment here.
And of course, being in Savannah over St. Patrick’s Day weekend brought a touch of magic to it all. I even got to catch a bit of the parade, a vibrant reminder of the joy that comes from bringing people together, both professionally and culturally.
Looking Ahead
Congratulations to NADCA on an exceptionally well-run, informative, and inspiring event. It’s heartening to see such a strong focus on quality, science, and continuous improvement in the industry. I left with new ideas, new connections, and a renewed appreciation for the work we all do to create healthier indoor environments.
Until next year!
