The air filtration industry faces immense pressure to deliver high-performing, scientifically validated, and regulatory-compliant solutions while standing out in an increasingly competitive market. Challenges manufacturers commonly face include:

Proving Real-World Performance

Regulatory bodies, customers, and stakeholders demand data that reflects real-world scenarios — not just idealised laboratory conditions.

Navigating Complex Regulatory Standards

ISO, ASHRAE, ASTM, and regional compliance frameworks create a complex regulatory landscape that can slow product launches without the right testing partner.

Differentiating from Competitors

With many air purifiers making similar claims, rigorous independent testing is essential to back up unique performance advantages with credible data.

Addressing Emerging IAQ Concerns

From airborne viruses to microplastics and VOCs, the list of IAQ concerns continues to grow — requiring adaptable, forward-looking testing methodologies.

Supporting Marketing with Scientific Data

Strong technical claims backed by credible third-party research significantly boost consumer trust, brand reputation, and retail listing potential.

Science-Backed Validation for Air Cleaning Technologies

Our expertise lies in the accurate measurement and analysis of airborne pollutants — particularly bioaerosols including viruses, bacteria, fungal spores, allergens, and toxic microbial byproducts. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are equipped with climate-controlled testing chambers, many full-sized and adaptable, allowing us to simulate real-world conditions with precision.

We have extensive experience evaluating a wide array of air purification technologies including filtration systems (HEPA, ULPA, activated carbon, electrostatic precipitators), UV and photocatalytic technologies (UV-C, TiO₂ coatings), ionisation and plasma fields (bipolar ionisation, dielectric barrier discharge, cold plasma), gaseous and dry formulations, and both in-duct and free-standing systems.

Establishes a test method for biological aerosol removal and defines the minimum equivalent clean air requirements to reduce airborne disease transmission in indoor environments.

Industry-recognised method for verifying an air purifier’s effectiveness in removing airborne microbes — the standard for microbial CADR certification.

Laboratory test method to measure the performance of general ventilation air-cleaning devices in removing particles of specific diameters.

Our modified duct attached to an ASTM/AHAM environmental test chamber allows assessment of in-duct and in-sequence air purifying systems on viral particles, bacteria, fungi, allergens, and toxins.

Determines the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) for portable air cleaners. Airmid provides 28.5 m³ environmental test chambers built in accordance with the ANSI/AHAM AC-1 standard.

Determines volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from materials, products, and equipment — including air cleaners — under typical office and residential building conditions.

Specifies a test method for evaluating HVAC UV-C technologies for their ability to inactivate airborne microorganisms in the airstream — including bioaerosol generation and microbial sampling procedures.

Note: If your portable air cleaner uses HVAC-style filters (e.g. pleated media with a MERV rating), you may require ASHRAE 52.2 testing to validate filtration efficiency. Learn more about our ASHRAE 52.2 Testing Services for HVAC Filters.

Additional Testing Services

In addition to air cleaner performance validation, Airmid Healthgroup offers a range of complementary testing services to support IAQ research and product development:

  • Allergen Detection & Mitigation Studies — assessing product efficacy in reducing allergens such as pollen, dust mites, and pet dander
  • Microbial Contamination Assessments — evaluating microbial loads in indoor environments before and after air treatment interventions
  • Surface Disinfection Efficacy Testing — measuring the ability of air cleaning technologies to reduce surface contamination
  • HVAC System Evaluations — investigating filtration and purification efficiency within ventilation systems
  • VOC Emissions Analysis — identifying and quantifying harmful chemicals released by air cleaning devices
