Several members of the airmid healthgroup team attended FILTECH 2023 in Cologne, Germany from February 14 to 16. FILTECH is one of the world’s leading trade shows in the field of filtration and separation technology.
Colm Kinsella, Jake Behan, and Naga Bonagiri attended a number of courses and lectures at the event, and they remarked on how the event had broadened their knowledge of the filtration industry. “It was interesting to learn about upcoming new air quality regulations, and how airmid healthgroup’s offerings can continue to provide valuable support for the ongoing developments in novel antimicrobial coatings and industrial applications of the various filtration technologies we are involved in testing including fibrous filters, fabric filters, electrostatic, plasma and electrical precipitators” said Jake Behan, our Head of Operations.
One of the key themes at this year’s FILTECH was the growing use of digitalisation and automation, particularly in the form of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling. CFD simulations are used to predict system performance under different conditions and the results of these computer models are then applied in the optimisation of filter and membrane design. By gaining insights into fluid flow and transport phenomena, engineers seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of filtration systems. However, it was noted (and indeed our experience tells us) that computer simulations do not preclude the need for experimental data using real microorganisms to accurately predict microbial removal performance in the real world.
Another topic of interest was microplastic pollution, which has become a major environmental concern. One of the primary sources of this pollution is car tyres and it was interesting to hear that prototype filters capable of capturing microplastics before these pollutants enter the environment are now being trialled in roadside sewer drains in Germany. Microplastic pollution is also an area of concern for indoor air quality and airmid healthgroup is involved in testing in this area to assist manufacturers of appliances such as tumble dryers and washing machines to meet new regulations that are being introduced in Europe.
At airmid healthgroup, we are dedicated to delivering innovative solutions for filtration and separation technology. As a leading provider of independent testing and verification services, we understand the importance of ensuring that filtration systems meet the highest standards of efficiency and effectiveness. FILTECH 2023 was a great opportunity for us to learn about the latest trends and innovations in the field, and we are excited to bring this knowledge back to our clients. We look forward to continuing to work with companies to develop and improve their filtration systems and to contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.
