Fellowes Inc is a globally renowned manufacturer of office products such as paper shredders, binding and laminating equipment, and records storage boxes. Having recognised that indoor air quality is a significant and growing problem in homes and offices, they responded by adding air purifiers to their range of products. As a brand that is committed to delivering the highest quality, they understood the importance of engaging outside expertise to independently test and validate the performance of their latest products. As a result Fellowes collaborated with airmid healthgroup to test their air purifiers against a newly developed asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification standard for Air Cleaners with Hybrid Systems, ASP 08:05.

The testing provided scientific verification that their AeraMax™ 100, 200 and 300 models effectively reduce airborne allergen levels in the indoor environment. These models are hybrid systems, meaning that they rely on a combination of particle removal technologies to achieve their objective. Hybrid systems help to address issues that can arise in air cleaners that rely solely on media type filtration. These issues can include mold growth as a result of the carbon source provided by the media and high energy consumption. The AeraMax™ line of air purifiers rely on a combination of True HEPA filtration with AeraSafe™ antimicrobial treatment, carbon filtration and PlasmaTRUE™ technology, an ionizing system.  The testing measured the number of negative and positive ions to ensure that the ratio of negative to positive ions was in excess for negative ions. The level of ozone generated as a by product was also measured and shown to be less than 0.1 mg/, the level required by the asthma & allergy friendly™ standard which is consistent with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Section 21:801:415.

“Working with airmid healthgroup has given us access to valuable knowledge in aerobiology and indoor air quality” said Roger Frye, Vice President Global Marketing for Fellowes Work Solutions. “Their scientific expertise and rigorous testing process has supported our message that Fellowes AeraMax™ air purifiers can make a real contribution to improving the quality of air in homes and offices”
