Airmid Healthgroup is proud to share that Dr. John McKeon, CEO of Allergy Standards Ltd and Principal of the iAIR Institute, will join leading European researchers and clinicians in an upcoming webinar hosted by EDIAQI in collaboration with the INQUIRE project. The session will explore how indoor air pollution impacts children’s respiratory health and what actions families, schools, and policymakers can take to reduce exposure to asthma triggers.
Understanding the Challenge
Air pollution, both outdoor and indoor, remains one of the most significant environmental health threats in Europe. Children are particularly vulnerable due to their developing lungs and higher respiratory rates, spending up to 90% of their time indoors in environments such as schools and homes where pollutant levels can be two to three times higher than outdoors.
From inadequate ventilation and mould growth to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by cleaning products and building materials, these exposures contribute to the onset and exacerbation of asthma, one of the leading chronic diseases among children worldwide.
Bridging Science and Health
Dr. McKeon will deliver a presentation titled “Healthier Spaces, Healthier Breaths: Clinical Perspectives on Indoor Air Quality and Childhood Asthma.” Drawing on his clinical background and Airmid Healthgroup’s scientific expertise in aerobiology and bioaerosol testing, he will highlight how evidence-based approaches can help identify the most overlooked indoor pollutants and provide actionable insights for real-world intervention.
As a physician and an advocate for science-driven innovation in building health, Dr. McKeon’s work bridges the gap between medical science and environmental engineering. He currently serves as Vice President of ASHRAE Ireland, a voting member of ASHRAE’s Environmental Health Committee, and a Commissioner on the Global Commission for Healthy Indoor Air.

Dr. Alexander Håland (INQUIRE) – Hidden Hazards at Home: What INQUIRE Teaches Us about Indoor Air and Asthma Prevention
-
Michael Forsmann (EDIAQI) – From Data to Diagnosis: What Cohort Studies Reveal about Indoor Air Pollution, Asthma, and Allergy
Together, these talks will emphasize how multi-disciplinary collaboration (spanning medicine, environmental science, and policy) can empower families, educators, and communities to take meaningful steps toward improving children’s respiratory health.
At Airmid Healthgroup, we are committed to advancing the science of indoor air quality through rigorous testing, translational research, and expert collaboration. Our laboratories support initiatives like this EDIAQI and INQUIRE webinar by generating the independent data needed to substantiate health claims and guide healthier building practices.
