HVAC duct cleaning research at the worlds leading indoor air quality conference
Indoor Air 2026, hosted at Singapore Management University from 14 to 18 June, is the 19th International Conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality & Climate (ISIAQ). Under the theme “Enhancing Wellbeing in Existential Challenges: Deepening Understanding, Building Resilience,” it brings together scientists, engineers, and public health professionals from around the globe to advance knowledge on one of the most consequential challenges of our time: the quality of the air we breathe indoors.
Dr. John Ryan presents on HVAC duct cleaning and indoor contaminants
On Wednesday 17 June, from 10.30am to 12.00pm in Room 3.09, Airmid Healthgroup CEO Dr. John Ryan will present research investigating the effect of professional HVAC duct cleaning and maintenance on particulate matter, bacteria, mould, and allergens.
This research was conducted in partnership with NADCA (the National Air Duct Cleaners Association), and addresses a question that matters enormously to building managers, HVAC professionals, and anyone concerned with the quality of air circulating through the spaces where people live and work. HVAC systems are central to indoor air distribution, yet their ducts can accumulate particulates, biological contaminants, and allergens over time. This study examines whether professional cleaning and maintenance produces measurable improvements across these key contaminant categories.
The findings of the HVAC duct cleaning research contribute to a growing body of evidence on practical, actionable interventions for healthier indoor environments, precisely the kind of applied research that Indoor Air 2026’s theme calls for.
A global platform for applied IAQ science
Indoor Air has been the premier scientific forum for indoor air quality since its first conference in Copenhagen in 1978. Singapore 2026 reflects the increasing urgency of the field. Climate change, urbanisation, and the intensification of indoor exposures are converging to make indoor air quality a public health priority that demands both scientific rigour and practical solutions.
The conference programme spans 15 subthemes, from aerosols and particulate matter to smart buildings, ventilation, air cleaning, and resilient building design. Dr. Ryan’s presentation sits within a programme that reflects the full complexity of the indoor environment and the breadth of research needed to address it.
