Exploring ASHRAE Standard 241 and Its Role in Reducing Airborne Disease Transmission in Buildings

Event Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2025
Time: 15:00 – 18:30
Location: Airmid Healthgroup, Dublin
Guest Speaker: Professor Chandra Sekhar, Ph.D., National University of Singapore
Next week, Airmid Healthgroup is pleased to host an important seminar in partnership with ASHRAE Ireland — “Control of Infectious Aerosols” — presented by Professor Chandra Sekhar, Ph.D., from the National University of Singapore.
This seminar will explore the new ASHRAE Standard 241-2023: Control of Infectious Aerosols, which sets minimum requirements to reduce the risk of disease transmission through airborne pathogens in buildings. As one of the first international standards developed in response to lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, ASHRAE Standard 241 represents a significant advancement in indoor air quality (IAQ) and infection control management.
Understanding ASHRAE Standard 241
Attendees will gain an in-depth understanding of:
-
ASHRAE Standard 241-2023 and its role in minimizing airborne disease transmission in built environments.
-
The Infection Risk Management Mode (IRMM) — a special operating mode designed for use during elevated risk periods such as viral outbreaks, which calls for enhanced ventilation and air cleaning.
-
How to develop a Building Readiness Plan and apply commissioning, operation, and maintenance practices that ensure systems perform as intended during critical times.
Why It Matters
The control of infectious aerosols has become a core component of healthy building design and operation. With people spending up to 90% of their time indoors, proper ventilation and filtration strategies are essential for maintaining indoor environments that support occupant health and resilience.
At Airmid Healthgroup, our mission aligns closely with this goal. Through our state-of-the-art laboratories and scientific testing, we work to validate products and systems that contribute to cleaner indoor air, from HVAC filters and purifiers to building materials. Hosting this ASHRAE seminar demonstrates our commitment to promoting science-based standards for indoor environmental quality.
