ASHRAE, in collaboration with the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre (AIVC), has issued a call for papers for the upcoming Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) 2025 Conference, to be held this September in Montreal, Canada.
With the theme “Rising to New Challenges: Connecting IEQ to a Sustainable Future,” the conference will bring global leaders together to explore how indoor environmental quality shapes occupant health and building resilience in a changing climate.
At Airmid Healthgroup, we welcome this call for papers. For over two decades, we’ve worked at the intersection of indoor air science, health, and innovation, helping product developers, building professionals, and policymakers move from good intentions to validated (and measurable) impact.
This conference will act as a platform to help define the future of healthy indoor environments. And it’s one we know well.
Dr. McKeon, our Medical Director, has previously presented at ASHRAE and AIVC events, including his recent paper on “Bridging Metrics and Health Outcomes” (PDF).
We also showcased our expertise at Indoor Air 2024, where we discussed the evolving science of air cleaning technologies and their real-world effectiveness in controlling infectious aerosols (read more).
The IEQ 2025 conferencehas issued a call for papers across a wide range of relevant topics, including:
- Performance metrics and health outcomes
- Smart sensors, data integration, and controls
- Post-pandemic HVAC systems and filtration science
- Occupant behavior: How behavior impacts IEQ and how IEQ impacts behavior — the psychological dimensions of IEQ.
- Policy, standards, and implementation pathways
- HVAC and IEQ in a post-COVID world.
- Policy and standards: Trends, impacts, implications.
- The environment around us: Acoustics, lighting, glazing, interiors, and impacts upon wellness
- Ventilation: Mechanical, passive, natural, and hybrid systems.
- Thermal comfort: Dynamic approaches, health impacts, and trends
Both full technical papers and extended abstracts are welcome, with selected work being considered for publication in ASHRAE’s Science and Technology for the Built Environment journal.
From IAQ to IEQ
Too often, the conversation around healthy buildings stops at indoor air quality (IAQ) focusing narrowly on airborne pollutants or filtration technologies. But indoor environmental quality (IEQ) goes further, encompassing not just air, but also thermal comfort, lighting, acoustics, and how these factors interact with occupant behavior, productivity, and well-being. The shift toward a more integrated IEQ approach is a significant innovation, aligning indoor environmental science with the lived experience of people in real buildings. It’s a direction Airmid Healthgroup fully supports and one that’s reflected in both our research and our collaborations with product innovators, standards bodies, and design teams.

At Airmid, we see this as an opportunity to convene researchers, engineers, architects, and public health advocates around the shared goal of healthier, more sustainable buildings.
