Real-World Testing for a Changing World: Airmid’s Contributions to Allergy Science
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of representing Airmid Healthgroup at the EAACI Annual Congress 2025 in Glasgow. As one of the most important gatherings in the field of allergy, asthma, and clinical immunology, EAACI provided a fantastic platform to share our research, reconnect with collaborators, and explore the evolving intersection between planetary health and indoor environments.
The theme this year, “Breaking Boundaries in Allergy, Asthma, and Clinical Immunology: Integrating Planetary Health for a Sustainable Future”, resonated strongly with Airmid’s mission to advance healthier indoor spaces through rigorous, real-world testing.

Poster Presentations: Turning Lab Science Into Practical Impact
I was honored to present two posters highlighting our ongoing research in allergen mitigation:
- Evaluating Advanced Fabric Care Technologies for Effective Dust Mite Eradication
Dust mite allergens remain one of the most persistent triggers for asthma. This study focused on how high-temperature vapour cycles applied to household fabrics can significantly reduce allergen load. These results are particularly relevant for both home and healthcare settings where bedding and upholstery play a major role in exposure risk.
- Evaluating the Impact of Air Cleaning Devices on Novel Allergens, Silkworm Allergen (Bom m 1)

At EAACI 2025, Oliver Dsa shares findings on the effectiveness of air cleaning devices in reducing exposure to novel indoor allergens,
In this study, we assessed how commercially available air cleaning technologies perform against the emerging silkworm allergen Bom m 1. As novel exposure sources like exotic pets, textiles, or industrial materials become more common, it’s critical that air purifiers are evaluated beyond traditional allergens.
Building Bridges Through Scientific Dialogue

Oliver Dsa connects with the InBio team at EAACI 2025 to explore the latest in high-efficiency air sampling and aeroallergen exposure monitoring
Beyond presenting, EAACI offered valuable opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange. I had the chance to speak with several pioneering organizations who are pushing the boundaries of allergy science:
- Innova Nanojet – We discussed mitigation strategies for asthma and allergies in both residential and occupational environments.
- Red Maple Trials– Their work with advanced environmental exposure chambers is helping drive forward clinically relevant research.
- Swisens– Their real-time aerosol particle monitoring, particularly for pollen, is making a real difference in allergy prediction and public health preparedness.
- Cliantha Research – A comprehensive CRO offering expertise across environmental, respiratory, and dermatology research, including environmental exposure chambers.
- InBio– It was great to catch up on developments in ELISA kits, the Apollo Air sampler, and MARIA assay, tools that are foundational for our lab work at Airmid.
Key Scientific Takeaways
A few standout sessions really reinforced the importance of our work:
🌱 Nature’s Role in Healing – Dr. Tari Haahtela
- Emphasized how biodiversity improves the microbiome and helps reduce allergic disease.
- Called for better indoor air and a return of natural elements to urban life.

Dr. Tari Haahtela at EAACI 2025 calling for better indoor air and a return to natural biodiversity—showing how exposure to enriched microbiota can help regulate immunity and reduce allergic disease.
🌍 Climate Change, Air Pollution, and Allergy – Dr. Isabella Annesi-Maesano
- Showed how climate change is lengthening pollen seasons, increasing mold exposure, and worsening air pollution from wildfires and urban activity.
- Highlighted how indoor environments must adapt in response to these external pressures.

At EAACI 2025, Dr. Isabella Annesi-Maesano highlighted how climate change is reshaping pollen exposure and air quality—calling for urgent adaptation of indoor environments to protect respiratory health.
These sessions really highlighted the urgency of developing indoor air solutions that are grounded in scientific evidence and ecological awareness.
Looking Ahead
Attending EAACI 2025 reaffirmed my belief in the importance of bioaerosol science and real-world testing. Whether it’s validating new air cleaning technologies or developing allergen reduction strategies for the home, our work at Airmid contributes directly to improving quality of life for people with asthma and allergies.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the global allergy community and look forward to future collaborations that support a healthier, more sustainable world.
