Quantitative antimicrobial surface treatment testing

Hard surfaces can be tested in line with international standards ISO 27447:

Fine ceramics (advanced ceramics, advanced technical ceramics) – Test method for antibacterial activity of semi conducting photocatalytic materials, ISO 22196: Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces.

  • Determines the extent of efficacy of light activated antimicrobial treatments

  • A specified concentration of bacteria is introduced to surfaces with an antimicrobial coating.
  • After a period of light exposure the number of viable bacteria is enumerated by surface extraction and detection of an appropriate agar.
  • The test method commonly uses E. coli and S. aureus however this can be adapted to include other bacterial of fungal species as requested by the client.
