BS EN 13697:2015

Scope
Quantitative non-porous surface test for the evaluation of bactericidal and/or fungicidal activity of chemical disinfectants used in food, industrial, domestic and institutional areas.

Products that can be tested
Chemical disinfectants that form a homogeneous, physically stable preparation in hard water and are used in food, industrial, domestic and institutional areas excluding areas and situations where disinfection is medically indicated and excluding products used on living tissues.

Description of Test

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus hirae, Escherichia coli are used to evaluate bactericidal activity. Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger are used to determine fungicidal activity.
  • A test suspension of microorganisms in the presence and absence of a solution of interfering substances is inoculated onto test stainless steel.
  • The surface is maintained at a specified temperature for a defined time period, after which time the surface is transferred into a neutralisation medium.
  • The number of surviving organisms recovered from the surface is determined quantitatively, and the number of organisms on a surface treated with hard water in place of the disinfectant is similarly determined. The microbicidal effect is calculated by difference.

Third Party Validation
On passing this test, theproduct can be labelled as tested by airmid healthgroup to BS EN 13697:2001 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received.

Turnaround Time
4 weeks from receipt of samples

The quality of the third party data we received from airmid healthgroup helped us showcase our innovative strategy of licensing this novel technology at a prestigious international scientific event, the European Innovation Convention. Ultimately this will allow us add value and differentiate our customer offerings through a focus on health and indoor air quality.
