ISO 27447:2019
Photocatalysts are composed of semi-conducting metal oxides such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. The ISO 27447:2019 standard is designed to determine the anti-bacterial activity of materials containing the photocatalyst or have photocatalytic films on their surface, by enumerating bacteria after exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. ISO 27447:2019, though intended for use with ceramics, can also be used with other photocatalytic-treated materials such as textiles, glass and plastics.
Description of Test
- Bacteria (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) are inoculated onto the test and control materials.
- After a period of UV light exposure, viable bacteria are extracted from the test and control materials and enumerated on a nutrient agar medium.
- The efficacy of the anti-bacterial treatment in response to UV light is calculated by comparing the test and the control materials according to criteria outlined in the standard.
- The antibacterial effect is also assessed in the dark and incorporated into the calculations.
- Other bacteria or fungal species can be used upon request.
Submitting a Sample
Identify the number of samples you wish to test and we will provide you with a quote. Upon receipt of samples and payment we will test the samples in accordance to the standard and provide a report of the results.
Turnaround Time
We aim to report your results within 3 weeks of sample receipt
Third Party Validation
On passing this test, the product can be labelled as having been tested by airmid healthgroup to ISO 27447:2019 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received.
The quality of the third party data we received from airmid healthgroup helped us showcase our innovative strategy of licensing this novel technology at a prestigious international scientific event, the European Innovation Convention. Ultimately this will allow us add value and differentiate our customer offerings through a focus on health and indoor air quality.
