ISO 16212:2011

Scope
Enumeration of yeast and mould present in cosmetics through total viable count (TVC) after aerobic incubation.

Products that can be tested
Cosmetics deemed applicable by microbiological risk analysis. Products posing low microbial risk include those with low water activity, hydro-alcoholic products, products with extreme pH values, etc. May not be suited to certain water immiscible products.

Description of Test

  • Colonies are enumerated on a selective agar medium
  • Inhibition of fungal growth by the sample is neutralised to allow the detection of viable microorganism
  • Aerobic incubation of plate at 25°C ± 2.5°C for 3 to 5 days
  • Colony forming units (CFU) are counted and the amount of yeast and mould per millilitre or per gram of product is calculated

Third Party Validation
On passing this test, the product can be labelled as tested by airmid healthgroup to ISO 16212:2011 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received.

Turnaround Time
