Several members of the airmid healthgroup team attended the AHR Expo in Chicago, the premier event for the HVACR (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) Industry. With 2,100 exhibiting companies and an estimated 42,000 visitors, the event provided a key platform to showcase new products and meet customers from around the world.
Indoor air quality continued to be a topic high on the agenda for many of the participants. As such there was considerable interest in our air cleaner testing and consultancy services, which we have continued to develop in response to growing demand. We provide state-of-the-art testing facilities and market leading expertise in assessing air cleaning devices against a range of biological contaminants including bacteria, fungi, allergens and viruses.
Given the recent headlines on Ebola and other infectious diseases, interest in our virus testing capabilities for air cleaning products was particularly strong. Using both our 28.5 m3 and 20.5 m3 chambers, and our modified ASHRAE 52.2 Test Duct we are able to aerosolise controlled quantities of real virus specimens including Influenza A (H1N1), Feline Calicivirus (used as a surrogate for Norovirus), Rhinovirus and other viruses. We employ the most reliable and accurate analytical procedures to determine airborne and surface concentration of these viruses including qPCR (Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction), ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) and cell culture.
We had a number of successful meetings looking at regulations, testing and claim verification, as well as discussing several new technologies under development for cleaning HVAC airstreams. Manufacturers are now encompassing a host of different technologies into their air cleaning devices such as HEPA filter technology, ionizers, plasma, photo-catalytic oxidation and UVGI. As a leading independent testing facility, airmid healthgroup continues to work with a broad spectrum of clients to develop and assess these technologies using internationally recognised methods and adapted testing conditions designed to more closely reflect their true performance in the real world.
