airmid healthgroup is pleased to welcome Ciara Keenan, on a 3 week internship as part of the science team. Entering her 3rd year as an undergraduate in the University of Limerick, Ciara is pursuing a B.Sc. in Food Science and Health. During her 3 weeks at airmid healthgroup, Ciara will be working with Máire Fox, M.Sc., Laboratory Manager, Dr. Angela Southey, Head of Virology and Environmental Test Chambers, John Fallon, PhD, Senior Scientific officer, Natasha Gordon, PhD, R&D manager and Noelle Dromgoole, Occupational Hygienist and will gain hands-on-experience in the Allergen and Microbiology laboratories as well as in the Environmental Test Chambers. She will also participate in Environmental Field Studies.

At the conference, an impressive collection of national and international delegates from academia and industry presented research in the fast developing area of fungal biology.

As a former postgraduate of NUI Galway, Noelle Dromgoole was delighted to attend the conference "Occupational Health and Safety: A Pioneering Past and a Bright Future" on the 14th and 15th June 2013. The conference celebrated 21 years of Occupational Health and Safety postgraduate study at NUI Galway and the achievements of postgraduates. In addition the conference reviewed current developments and challenges within Occupational Health and Safety across all industries.

Stephen is a 3rd year undergraduate studying a BSc. in Environmental Science & Health. While at airmid, Stephen will be working in the Allergen Laboratory alongside Máire Fox, MSc, Laboratory Manager, and Dr. Angela Southey, Head of Virology and Environmental Test Chambers.
Gabriel Scientific, in conjunction with airmid healthgroup, launched The Pillow Check Up 2013 on RTE Radio 1’s The Mooney Show on the 17th of April. Listeners were invited to send their pillows for analysis at airmid healthgroup’s laboratories to measure the levels of mould, allergens and bacteria present in pillows around Ireland. The results revealed that one third of pillows sampled had evidence of dust mite allergen. All of the pillows were found to harbour bacteria, just under a third of which at high levels, while half contained detectable levels of mould. A variety of mould and bacterial species were identified including Candida, Aspergillus, Rhodoltorula, and Streptococcus.
This week, at events in cities from coast-to-coast, Irish Government officials, including Prime Minister (An Taoiseach) Enda Kenny, will reinforce and promote Ireland's ties with its largest trading partner, the U.S. The ties continue to strengthen. As their businesses expand in the U.S., Ireland-based companies are broadening their footprint and boosting headcount. Today, Ireland is the 14th largest investor in the U.S., with 300 Irish companies across all 50 states collectively employing more than 82,000 Americans. The investment flows both ways. U.S. companies continued to select Ireland as their European hub last year, while many existing corporate tenants expanded their Irish operations. In total, more than 600 U.S. companies have a presence on the island.
Dr. Bruce Mitchell, CEO of airmid healthgroup, was delighted to present a talk entitled “Exposure to Indoor Air Contaminants in the Workplace” at the 22nd Annual Occupational Hygiene Society of Ireland conference held in Co. Limerick. In his talk Dr Mitchell addressed many of the key elements that need to be taken into account to ensure the quality of indoor air in offices.
