Washington, D.C., was the backdrop for a week filled with high-impact discussions, collaborations, and insights—culminating in two key events that underscored the growing intersection of health, innovation, and transatlantic partnerships
The Ireland Funds National Gala: A Gathering of Industry Leaders
Airmid Healthgroup had the privilege of attending The Ireland Funds National Gala in D.C., held under the patronage of the Taoiseach of Ireland, Micheál Martin. This prestigious event brought together influential figures from business, policy, and academia, reinforcing the deep connections between Ireland and the United States.
We were honored to be able ro personally introduce the Taoiseach to our distinguished guests, including:
- Dr. Whitney Austin Gray from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), a leader in advancing indoor environments for health and wellness.
- Kenny Mendez, CEO and President of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), a key advocate for respiratory health research and policy.
- Jim Flood from Crowell & Moring, a recognized authority on legal and policy frameworks impacting healthcare and medtech innovation.

Another highlight of the evening was the recognition of The Honourable Brendan Boyle from the U.S. House of Representatives. A longtime supporter of the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program, particularly in the D.C. area, Congressman Boyle has played a critical role in advocating for policies that promote healthier indoor environments for individuals with asthma and allergies.

The evening provided an invaluable platform to discuss how scientific research, air quality standards, and medtech advancements can work together to improve public health. With growing concerns around respiratory health, infection control, and indoor air quality, these conversations are more relevant than ever.
American Chamber of Commerce Breakfast: Economic and Academic Ties
The following (early!) morning, we attended the American Chamber of Commerce Breakfast, where Ireland’s business and academic leaders engaged with their U.S. counterparts. This event was particularly significant, as it marked the introduction of Paul Sweetman, the new CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland.
Key speakers and attendees included:
- Professor Orla Feely, President of University College Dublin (UCD), highlighting the role of academia in fostering innovation.
- The Chairman of Enterprise Ireland, emphasizing Ireland’s position as a leader in medtech and healthcare innovation.
- Irish Med Tech Association (IBEC) leadership, reinforcing Ireland’s reputation as a global hub for business and technology.

The event reinforced the strong ties between Ireland and the U.S., particularly in the medtech sector. Ireland continues to be a key player in global medical technology, with companies and researchers driving advancements in healthcare, diagnostics, and environmental health sciences.
Why This Matters for Airmid Healthgroup
As Airmid Healthgroup continues to expand its impact in airborne pathogen research, infection control, and healthy building innovation, these events underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration. Meeting with leaders from IWBI, AAFA, and legal experts like Crowell & Moring provides critical insights into shaping future policies, research directions, and partnerships that can drive better health outcomes.
At the same time, Ireland’s influence in the global medtech landscape is stronger than ever. With world-class universities, government-backed enterprise initiatives, and an increasingly interconnected business ecosystem, the opportunities for innovation in health and indoor air quality are immense.
Washington, D.C., served as a powerful reminder that the intersection of policy, business, and research is where real progress happens. Airmid Healthgroup remains committed to being at the forefront of these discussions—advocating for science-backed solutions that improve health in buildings, workplaces, and homes worldwide.
