HEALTH in BUILDINGS – HYGEIA 2026

We are proud to announce our participation at the Hellenic Chapter of ASHRAE’s 1st International Conference, “HEALTH in BUILDINGS – HYGEIA 2026”

HYGEIA 2026 International Conference banner: Health in Buildings, hosted by ASHRAE Hellenic Chapter, 27 to 29 May 2026, Kos Island, Greece.
The 1st International Conference HEALTH in BUILDINGS HYGEIA 2026 takes place at the Blue Lagoon Resort on Kos Island Greece

The Conference is organised by the Hellenic Chapter of ASHRAE in collaboration with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Health and the Athens Medical Association, and endorsed by ASHRAE. It brings together leaders from the medical and engineering communities to explore how the two disciplines can collaborate to deliver a holistic approach to health (υγεία / hygeia) in the built environment.

The iAIR Group will contribute two presentations to the programme.

Dr. Angela Southey’s Presentation:

“Role of Small-Sized Air Purifiers in Indoor Air Quality Strategies”

Dr. Angela Southey, PhD, MPH, Chief Technical Officer in Aerobiology at iAir Laboratory (Airmid Healthgroup), will examine how small, portable air purifiers fit within professional indoor air quality (IAQ) strategies. Growing awareness of airborne pathogens, pollution, allergens, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) has driven rapid adoption of these compact devices in homes, offices, schools, and healthcare settings, particularly where major HVAC upgrades are impractical. Her presentation will look at how properly selected portable purifiers can contribute to Equivalent Clean Airflow (ECAi) under ASHRAE Standard 241 (2023), how they complement ventilation, improved filtration, and source control as part of a layered approach, and which performance standards (including AHAM AC-1 (2020) for Clean Air Delivery Rate) underpin meaningful product claims.

When: Wednesday May 27, 14.30, Session-3: INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH – HOSPITALS

Dr. John McKeon’s Presentation:

Dr. John McKeon, CEO of Airmid Healthgroup and Medical Director at the iAIR Institute, keynote speaker at Phoenix IAQ event
Dr John McKeon CEO at the iAIR Group

“From Air to Outcomes: Integrating Biomarkers, AI, and the Exposome into Indoor Environmental Performance”

Dr. John McKeon, MD, CEO of the iAIR Health Group and Vice President of ASHRAE Ireland, will set out a framework for moving indoor environmental quality (IEQ) beyond comfort and compliance towards measurable health outcomes. His presentation will examine how advances in biomarkers, wearable technologies, and artificial intelligence can translate environmental data into actionable health metrics, with the exposome (the totality of environmental exposures an individual experiences indoors) providing a unifying lens for correlating IEQ parameters with physiological and clinical indicators of health. Drawing on collaborations with ASHRAE, the American Institute of Architects, and the World Filtration Institute, the talk will use case examples involving heart-rate variability, inflammatory biomarkers, and cognitive performance to show how real-time monitoring of indoor conditions and occupant responses can inform adaptive control systems and underpin outcome-based performance standards.

When: Thursday May 28, 14.30, Session-8: INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH – HOSPITALS

This international ASHRAE Hellenic Chapter conference convenes clinicians, engineers, researchers, and policy-makers from across the medical and built-environment communities, providing a unique forum for cross-disciplinary learning and collaboration. At Airmid Healthgroup and the iAIR Group, we are committed to advancing the science of indoor environmental quality through rigorous, independent testing and translating that evidence into healthier indoor spaces.

We look forward to engaging with the global community of professionals working at the intersection of health and the built environment in Kos.
