Scope
Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces

Products that can be tested
Plastics and other non-porous surfaces including paint films that have antimicrobial treatments that are not light-activated

Description of Test

  • A quantified bacterial suspension is introduced to the treated and untreated surfaces
  • Following a period of incubation viable colony forming units are enumerated on an appropriate agar
  • The efficacy of the antibacterial finish is quantified following calculations relating to the satisfaction of the criteria for a valid test as outlined in the standard
  • The test method uses Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus, however this can be adapted to include other bacterial (or fungal) species as requested by the client

Third Party Validation
On passing this test, the product can be labelled as having been tested by airmid healthgroup to BS ISO 22196:2011 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received

4 weeks from receipt of samples
